Monday 6:45 – This Hatha yoga class focuses on alignment asana and uses props to help students of all levels access the greatest benefits of yoga. Also included are mudra, pranayama, meditation, and yoga philosophy. This class encourages practitioners to take their yoga off the mat, into the world.

Monday 8:15 pm – This class includes gentle asana to help prepare your body for coming into stillness. Various styles of meditation will be explored. No experience necessary. This class is for those who desire better health and improved mood, as well as for those who wish to withdraw inward to develop a deeper relationship with his or her true nature. There will be opportunity to share and discuss experiences within the meditation community. 60 minutes

Yoga for Overall Health (7)

Tuesday 2:00 pm & Thursday 12:30 pm – This alignment focused class uses props as needed to make accessible each presented posture. Every class is designed to increase flexibility, strength, and stamina, as it calms the mind and improves overall health. All levels welcome. Mats are provided. (This class is also offered on Friday evenings, based upon basketball mom duties. Currently times are being announced closer to date. Please watch FB or check the calendar for announcement of cancellation or change in class time. Also know that private sessions are available.)

Yin Yoga is based on the Taoist concept of yin and yang, opposite and complementary principles in nature. Yin is the stable, unmoving, hidden aspect of things; yang is the changing, moving, revealing aspect. Other yin-yang polarities include cold-hot, down-up, calm-excited. In the body, the relatively stiff connective tissues (tendons, ligaments, fascia) are yin, while the more mobile and pliable muscles and blood are yang. This class consists of a series of long-held, passive floor poses that mainly work the lower part of the body—the hips, pelvis, inner thighs, lower spine, penetrating deep into the connective tissues. Yin Yoga is for you if you are tired, over-stimulated, when your energy is too erratic, your mind overactive, whether you are craving for energy or you feel you have too much of it. Mats are provided.

Thursday 7:30 pm – This class typically involves only five or six poses, supported by props that allow you to completely relax and rest. Poses are held 5 minutes or more, and include light twists, seated forward folds, and gentle backbends. Most restorative practices are based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar.

Saturday 9:00 am – Jen teaches this yoga class for those new to yoga or wanting a basic flow class. This class introduces foundational yoga postures, teaches you how to breath and helps you feel more comfortable in the yoga practice. 75 minutes

Sunday 2:30 pm – Jen teaches this gentle class focusing on the movement with the breath. The instructor will offer a variety of modifications. Meditation and Pranaymana (breath work) techniques are taught to promote relaxation. Class concludes with Restorative Yoga postures, which settle the body and mind. 60 minutes

Some classes at Prakrti Yoga are Donation or Karma Classes.
Additionally, at Prakrti Yoga, we strive to ensure that yoga is accessible to everyone. If a student truly desires a class they are unable to afford, a scholarship might be awarded if we feel they qualify. If you have benefited in even the slightest of ways from your own yoga practice and would like to Pay It Forward, your Karma Donations will go a long way in helping to bring our yoga community and Blount County together.

In honor of my oldest son, Christopher, a portion of donations are also presented to National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
