Meet Rachel

It didn’t take me long during our first meeting to realize that Rachel Torres belongs with us here at Prakrti Yoga & Holistic Health!

Her sweet heart is in alignment with our core values and beliefs. Rachel is a Birth Arts International Trained Birth Doula, as well as a passionate 200 Hour Certified Yoga Teacher from K10Yoga.

I love how her personality comes out in her bio!

Hi! My name is Rachel! I’m a wife, mom of three, and native of Maryville, Tennessee. I moved back to my hometown in Spring 2019 after being away for almost 14 years. During that time I lived in Utah, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and California. In addition to yoga, my interests include reading (primarily sci-fi and fantasy), baking, knitting, traveling, and writing. I am also a trained birth doula and a homeschooling mom.

One of my favorite quotes is by Austrian neurologist and Holocaust survivor Viktor Frankl. He wrote, “Forces beyond your control can take away everything you possess except one thing, your freedom to choose how you will respond to the situation.” I have a love for yoga and a desire to share it with others because it has led me to a place where I can make space to make better choices in my responses to whatever situations I face in my life. After all, the only thing I really have control over is myself, and I believe that developing inner peace and harmony is the only way to bring peace and harmony to the world.

Yoga came into my life in a very casual way during college. At the time, I thought yoga was merely a great way to strengthen and tone my body. I continued to practice yoga casually for several years. Then, after I became a mom, I began to experience chronic hip and back pain. Around this time I began to practice yoga more consistently and stumbled into an online course about mindfulness. While I wasn’t wrong in my initial assumption that yoga was a great way to get stronger–I am stronger because of yoga–I began to understand that yoga was SO MUCH MORE than just the physical practice of putting my body into different shapes.

I have discovered through my transformative yoga journey that unity between the breath, body, mind, and spirit on the mat begins to slowly permeate your life off the mat, too. Yoga does not start and stop on your mat. It is a way of life. A way of life defined by kindness, compassion, and grace for both myself and for others.  It is a way to find contentment living in the present moment. When the chaos of life confronts me, I can always come back to my breath and find the space to choose before I react.

I am still a work in progress that makes more than my fair share of mistakes. However, as I continue my yoga practice, I am finding that letting go of that which does not serve me continues to free up space for better things to come. And I trust that I have the power to choose what will fill that space.

Come meet Rachel for yourself and experience all she has to offer at Prakrti Yoga!
